Local Social Care Representatives Support the 2010 Great East of England Care Awards

22 April 2010

Key figures in social care across the East of England came together yesterday to demonstrate their commitment to promoting excellence and raising the profile of social care by supporting the inaugural Great East of England Care Awards in 2010.

Representatives from the care sector in the East of England gather together for the launch of the Great East of England Care Awards

Representatives from the care sector from across the region attended the Great British Care Awards networking dinner.  The event took place on 21st April at Homerton Hall in Cambridge bringing together key players from local authorities, Skills for Care, domiciliary and residential care providers and professional interested parties.

The networking dinner was staged as a platform to launch this year’s inaugural awards for the East of England.  In addition the dinner allowed a wide cross section of players to debate real issues being faced by care operators with the benefit of input and views from across the table.

The awards will take place on 29th October at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford and are one of a series of nine regional awards planned throughout the UK in the autumn later this year.

There are a total of around eighteen awards categories available for nomination, which represent all areas of the care sector, whether it be older people or specialist services, residential or home care.  From frontline staff such as care workers and care managers to people who have made an impact in other ways such as training, IT and innovation.

People can nominate themselves, a colleague or a company and must accompany their nomination with an account of around 300 words saying why they are worthy winners of an award.  For an entry form call 0115 959 6133m e-mail info@care-awards.co.uk or visit www.care-awards.co.uk All the finalists will be invited to attend a spectacular gala dinner at venues throughout the UK, where the winners will be announced.  The winners from the regional awards will then be invited to attend the National Events at the splendid Guildhall in London, for either Home Care or Care Homes sectors in Spring of 2011.

The awards support a chosen charity, The Maggie’s Centre, which has sites across the country supporting people who lives have been impacted upon by cancer.

Nadra Ahmed, Vice-Chair Skills for Care commented,

“Skills for Care is pleased to support the Great British Care Awards. Where the Skills for Care Accolades promote excellence and best practice in workforce development and celebrate the success of organisations and employers, the Great British Care Awards pay tribute to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work, all helping to raise the profile of the care sector as a whole.”

Lisa Carr, Director of The Great British Care Awards, said,

“We are delighted that we have had such overwhelming support from the sector for the Great British Care Awards. The awards offer a unique opportunity to celebrate the successes of individuals, teams and businesses throughout the UK - people who really do make a positive impact on people’s lives. These really are the ‘people’s awards’ and we take the awards to the people in their regions, paying tribute to the unsung heroes of our communities.  Without people like these many people would not be able to remain independent in their own homes or live life to the full in a residential environment. The sector’s endorsement of the awards will further help to raise the profile of social care throughout the regions and we are looking forward to working with them for what promises to be another year of wonderful, motivational events.”

Let’s celebrate social care and help it get the recognition it deserves.
