Short-listing panel for the 2011 regional Great British Care Awards announced

12 July 2011

As nominations for the 2011 regional Great British Care Awards flood in, the shortlisting panel has been announced.  Representatives from Ceretas, the national organisation representing home care and also the English Community Care Association (ECCA) will undertake the shortlisting for the forthcoming awards which take place throughout England in October and November this year.

Sponsored by h.e.t. software, the awards are now in their third year.  The Great British Care Awards are a series of regional events throughout England and are a celebration  of excellence across the care sector .  The purpose of the awards are to pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work. This year there are 9 regional awards leading to 2 national finals for both the home care and care home sectors, to be held at a prestigious central London venue in London in 2012

Mary Bryce, Chair of Ceretas said, “The Great British Home Care Awards celebrate the achievements of the best in social care, rewarding outstanding excellence, dedication, passion and commitment to millions of people who need services to remain in their own home.  Ceretas are delighted to once again be involved in the short-listing for the 2011 regional awards, which will doubtless highlight more positive news stories and examples of excellence from our sector.”

Martin Green, Chief Executive of the English Community Care Association, said of the awards,

Social Care is one of the most important areas of support for vulnerable people.  Yet it seldom seems to get the recognition that it deserves.  I am delighted that the care awards have been developed to give just recognition to the people who work so hard to make a difference to the lives of service users.  Our staffs are truly the ‘unsung heroes’ of the health and social care system but thankfully the care awards are putting this right and ensuring that the people who really make the difference finally get both the recognition and reward for their efforts.”

Once short-listing has taken place up to six finalists will be invited to attend a regional judging day where they will be interviewed by a panel of imminent sector individuals representing one of the award eighteen categories available for nomination.  The judging line-up consists of specially invited people from the Department of Health, the National Skills Academy, Skills for Care, local authorities, care associations and commercial partners. All have one thing in common; an interest and specialist knowledge of the sector and the desire to raise the profile of social care and pay tribute to those that work in the sector.

“Its a privilege to hear so many examples of good practice and it's important to recognise the warmth and dedication of so many care staff.  Judges at previous awards have been hugely impressed with the quality of ideas and innovation that emerge and they're keen that these inspiring examples of good practice are widely disseminated after the ceremonies so that standards of care are constantly improving”

Nominations are still been invited for the regional 2011 Great British Care Awards details of which can be found at www.care-awards.co.uk or by clicking on the relevant links in this email.
