The Great British Care Awards are delighted to announce that The Silver Line is to be this year’s charity partner.  At each of the 9 regional events money is raised on the evening for a charity which aligns itself with the ethos of the awards – promoting excellence in quality care provision to maximise service user wellbeing.

The Silver Line runs the only confidential, free helpline for older people across the UK that’s open every day and night of the year, and relies entirely on voluntary donations.  The helpline has recently marked its one millionth call from older people, with around 700,000 of these calls made overnight or at weekends.

Sophie Andrews, Chief Executive, The Silver Line Helpline said:

“Caring for our most vulnerable people is one of the most responsible and demanding jobs there is, and requires skill, compassion and dedication.

“Every day many thousands of people do their very best for those in their care – whether in a residential setting or in someone’s own home – yet their commitment and hard work is often ignored.

“As a new charity ourselves, we believe that identifying and sharing best practice, partnership working, and promoting innovative ideas, is vital if standards of older people’s care are to be raised even higher, especially as successive governments have failed to invest in the social care system.

“That’s why The Silver Line is delighted to be partnering with the Great British Care Awards to bring to wider public awareness the tremendous job that formal and informal carers do.

“We also help older people to access local support and services in their area – and many of those services will be provided by the very care staff that these awards recognise.

“Anyone who has attended the celebratory events or read the stories of previous winners, can only be impressed by the range of innovation, insights, and inspirational people that the awards uncover.”
