From her regular visits the other residents and staff recognised her as a big part of the home. Once the pandemic hit the home, Kath came to us to ask if she could volunteer and move in, this was not just for her benefit but the benefit of our residents. Kath has done this throughout and does not receive anything for this. Kath moved into the home and helped on the units in between her normal visits to her husband. Kath assisted in the dining rooms helping to prepare breakfasts and lunches and assist with those who needed help with eating and drinking. Kath also worked closely with the activities teams to help deliver activities to residents. Kath also took time to get to know the individual residents and used her own life experiences to relate to theirs which helped to bring out natural conversations and lots of laughter! The residents love having Kath around, especially during these very difficult times when their own families where unable to visit. Kath became support for them and developed lots of friendships. Kath has also developed very good relationships with all the staff as well they now see her as one of them. She has also helped the staff throughout the pandemic with their emotions and feelings, offering advice and guidance when requested.”
