Winner – Patrick Ruddock, Bluebird Care Brent and Harrow

All the finalist were of the highest caliber, however Patrick stood out as the winner largely due to his overall dedication to the clients he supports. Patrick became a career quite late in his career and has finally found his calling in life. He has overcome his initial fear of being left alone with clients and embraced the responsibility. He now mentors new staff members to enable them to overcome their fears.

Daniel is an asset to the care sector.  As the home’s chef he adopts a person centred approach ensuring good nutrition, hydration and wellbeing, interacting with residents as much as he can.

Winner – Lindi Urubusi, Sanctuary Supported Living

Lindi has gone above and beyond for her residents, family members and staff. From doing zoom calls during Covid to sending weekly photo updates to their loved one who were unable to use zoom. Lindi has also found ways to ease her resident’s anxiety by creating photo charts so they have visual format of the care process. Lindi’s love of her job, pride and passion shone through.

Victoria has gone above and beyond for her residents and support staff. Nothing is too much of a challenge for her. Listening to her stories about what she had done to support people was an inspiration.

Siham’s warmth and compassion shone through.  She ensures staff work well and are supported. She is firm but fair, she always willing to step in when need it.

Tansy is very driven person and make sure service user and staff are safe. She always leads by example.  This was particularly evident during the pandemic when carers would struggle to go to service user’s Tansy stepped up and delivered care herself.

Moya really showed what dignity in care actually means.  She works on the frontline ensuring people get to live at home for longer. Moya was really humble in the difference she had made to peoples’ lives. She is an inspiration!

Baljit showed a real passion for dignity and training her team in such high standards. She had designed her own training, the top ten dignity challenge, which was linked throughout everything she did. Baljit’s passion for dignity shone through.

Emma is committed to providing person centred care for people living with dementia.  She showed great empathy and gets to know the life histories of all the residents in her care.

In James’ words he was a lost soul when he started his career.  Moving into the care sector gave him a purpose and he has given back in abundance. The Care Providers’ Voice North East London has made a remarkable move to promote good recruitment, recognition and retention practices amongst their providers. They are making a difference by working as a collaborative group to promote job roles in the sector and find the right role for the right applicant. Additionally, they are engaging with the community to find alternatives methods and sources for recruitment from within their community attracting a variety of individuals into the care sector. They are working closely with key authorities and partners to promote care provision in the community promoting a collaborative and cooperative relationship that improves understanding and empathy for what the sector faces.

Alex has not only produced new technology to aid families and vulnerable people with dementia, but he has also grown a company that is now widely recognised within the healthcare sector. He has a number of financial investors that believe in the same vision as him to produce that all important piece of mind for families of vulnerable people within their homes. Mr Nash’s moving inspiration gave light to why supporting vulnerable and elderly people within their homes not only gives people a piece of mind but provides the vulnerable people with a quality of life.

Tayvanie’s innovation into the healthcare sector has taken on massive strikes over the last couple of years. what started from WhatsApp groups is now a fully running organisation which not only helps residents and other organisation but care staff alike. Her resilience to push for better working environments and strive for better communication within local authorities/ organisation is second to none. I cannot commend Tayvanie enough for her inspiring want for better support systems within the care industry, especially during the pandemic.

Nicola is such a passionate individual. She was able to answer all questions with ease and the passion and commitment she has for her residents and the team she reports oozed through. She is a pure breath of fresh air, championing and advocating for the wellbeing of everyone. We look forward to seeing what else she achieves in the future.

Tiffany spoke with enthusiasm and compassion, and you could tell she loves the work she does. She demonstrated throughout the interview that she is an active team player who uses her initiative and knows how leading by positive mindset and having a strong I can do attitude to any challenge that is placed before her and the team how she works closely with every person involved with the young people in her care to ensure the highest standard of care is given

Winner – Valerie Pirore, Bluebird Care Kensington and Chelsea

Valerie spoke with care and compassionate when talking about her role. Her passion and positive attitude in all tasks she does shone through. Her energetic, kindness and attention to detail for her clients and the staff was evident.

Jessica shone with enthusiasm when talking about her love for her job. She was able to demonstrate a deeper understanding and knowledge in how to ensure she gets the best possible solution for all her clients and how she is an active advocate for all.

 

The Care Assessor Award

Winner – Carol Hall, Chosen Care Group

Carol epitomises social care values. Carol detailed how much she ensured the person’s voice was heard within the assessment – often having to advocate for the person where family and friends are more vocal. Carol described her approach to planning care with each individual and is a hands on person who truly believes that working alongside people gets the most from them. Carol was very clear on the role of the KLOEs within her role and talked at a about the need for safety, reviews working with other professionals as well as positive risk and the importance of supporting a person spiritually, emotionally, socially as well as physically. This candidate was exceptionally candid and oozed enthusiasm and love for her role!

Highly commended – Esperanza Guidaven, Greensleeves Care

Esperanza was a lovely candidate who clearly loves what she does. She sees the assessment process as the key to great care planning. She preferred face to face assessments but due to Covid had to change how she approached these. She was clear that the resident, their family and social work teams needed to be engaged with the importance of speaking with the client was very key. Esperanza was exceptionally clear on the clinical requirements for assessments and that sometimes what actually is happening does not appear to be understood fully by family or sometimes the client – being patient and asking the right questions is very important to her. She is a proud clinician who believes that spending time on assessment delivers a great foundation for a great care plan.

 

The Putting People First Award (Residential)

Julius is someone who does not define what he does by his job role. He does not see job roles as a barrier to how you can support each other and enhance the quality of care for the people in receipt of care.  He has a can do attitude with positivity at all levels

What an inspiration from someone new to care , who has found her niche .Clearly Lisa wants to make a difference to the people she cares for and enable them to have an enjoyable experience at every level.

 

The Palliative Carer Award

Winner – Signature at Coombe Hill Manor

The team at Signature put a lot of hard work into preparing and training staff to support people with dementia with end-of-life care. They have a great person and family-centred approach to ensure that people and their families experience good deaths. Their empathy and commitment to great care shone through.

 

The Housing with Care Award

Winner – Team T, Cavendish Homecare

Each and everyone of the team demonstrated a strong understanding of all the required skills, knowledge and understanding. They spoke with a passion and love for their job roles and the love and respect for each and everyone of them shone through. A very passionate and caring team.

The Social Care Nurse Award

Winner – Ridel Francisco, Lyndehouse Care Home

Listening to Ridel we could hear his love for the job. The fact he has turned down a General Manager role to stay hands is testament to his dedication. We loved his indoor/travelling gardens that he created for his residents who were isolating during the pandemic.

Speaking with Napoleon his dedication and passion for his job shone through. It was a pleasure to speak with him. It is such a shame that couldn’t pick two winners as Napoleon is defiantly a shining star!

Joanne’s passion is remarkable. She sees food as a key part of the journey of care. She is determined that it is not just seen as something that just happens. It needs to be integral to the experience and that experience must be fantastic!!

The Social Care Covid Hero Award

Sheela Antony, Chosen Group

Sheelagh worked with her team to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and the people they support. 95% of the care workers stood up, leaving their family behind and continued to work in the community despite the virus. When asked, why were they still willing to work, the common theme was not wanting to let down the service users they had built meaningful relationships with.  An outstanding leader and colleague.
