They are trained to be similar to as intensive care nurses but without the nursing qualification. They are dedicated to one customer but the team moves on as a team to the next customer and that’s their preference as they know each other well. Winner – Lily Davies, Lifestyle Lead, Ty Enfys – Hallmark Care Homes

Lily’s dedication and passion to care shown through her interview from the very first second – she is creative, bubbly but more importantly forward thinking. Her ideas are on ground level but they have a an impact on multiple levels. Started her idea with the gardening project, making it more accessible for every residents, with very small changes. They even created an audio guide of the garden, for people with sight impairment. She understand the importance of team work, and knows how to get others on board. She’s working on a project “Turn it down” which realises the noise level in the home for staff and residents too. Her future vision is to change the shift pattern to the care workers and to have an in house nursery for staff. This would bring in more work – life balance and it would benefit the residents too. She looks up for her Mum and made a touching comment: I know my mum will be old one day – I work on the future care, so she would benefit from it.

Rebecca and Jonathan started their project “out of frustration” when the new guidance were introduced on using restraint or restraining techniques in their care settings. They are a small, very hands on team working with LD and challenging behaviour, specialised on complex cases. When the new legislation was introduced they were not given any instructions how to implement it and they’ve felt restriction was labelled by the media as bad. They’ve developed a guide which nurses and the wider care sector can use determining whether restraint or restrictions are beneficial for the individual to be used. They are close to having their work published and hopefully introduced it Nation Wide.
