Kayleigh was made redundant from her factory job during Covid and decided that it was an ideal time to go into care work. Since that time a year ago, she hasn’t looked back and appears to be a natural, quickly becoming a huge asset to the care sector. Kayleigh shared some really inspiring stories about her clients and how she has made a meaningful and positive impact to their lives.

This home work as team and specializes in dementia, they work therapeutically with staff to help understand the clients and how the clients feel, they work person-centered holistic way and know the residents very well, care plans are mainly done by talking to each residents observe what the residents like, dislike to get as much information from residents and the rest care plan includes the views from the family and friends. This team work really well!

Andy had great knowledge of dementia and always put the residents first. Andy has great observation skills and knows his residents well. He always tries to find subjects he can connect with the person.

Team works with learning disabilities, mental health, end of life care and had received the highest rating on their recent inspection. The team works well together striving for best care delivery and allow the team to grow to their full potential. Despite of their cultural differences, inclusion and support each other for shared goals is paramount. Respect and dignity is followed within the team thus enabling them to deal with crisis and conflicts well.

The team goes above and beyond to bring a smile to the face of the people they support, passion and the connection team members held with clients. Feedback received by the team from a family member was that “the team didn’t know the person before but celebrates who they are now”. It is evident a family ethos to the team.  The team members were rewarded through various means recognizing performance and positive feedback.

The team spoke passionately about their roles and the support received from their colleagues, with many staff having been employed for many years. They proudly shared examples of demonstrable outcomes achieved for individuals supported, including reductions in care hours, in one case supporting someone to reduce from 3:1 support to living independently.

 

The Activity Co-ordinator Award

Winner – Amelia Pace, Castleford House, Milkwood Care

Amelia is so creative and has come up with some fantastic experiences for her residents. Involving them in decisions, fulfilling wishes and having fun. Inking and Drinking saw residents being rebels and having “tattoos” while drinking beer, and the heavily Risk Assessed Water Slide was a massive success with lots of laughs and whistles.  Amelia is helping to train others and sharing her experiences with other homes.

David oozes positivity and energy in his role. He knows his residents really well and completely personalizes activities. He encourages participation with “let’s go and have some fun” and takes activities to the residents in their room if they prefer or are unable to join in the group activity. He’s enabled residents to make friends and become part of the community. He’s bold to try new things, trips to the circus and getting a video message from Cliff Richard, tractor rides, meeting reindeer and grenadier guards!

Residents are the centre point of everything they do, which is client lead, they encourage residents to try new things, they have a wish tree and promote positive risks when residents have an end-life requests.

They have great values as a company, and they give reason for residents to get up in the morning, given them a purpose for the day.  It is very apparent they all go above and beyond their role.

Winner – Paul Dixon, Mill House Care

Paul’s project to invite people to have free day care when no other option was possible in return for enabling people with dementia to be re-included in the workforce using their historic skills was an inspired idea that he had to work hard to persuade his employers and local business to accept but the blooming success of the project and its wider promotion has completely validated this innovative idea. We hope it could roll out more widely

Michelle believes in leading by example and taking the time to get to know the wide range of staff working under her as individuals. Michelle promotes best practice by building teams and encouraging everyone to be both reflective in planning and delivering unique packages of high-quality person-centered care.

This award goes to some very unusual superheroes – in fact, they are RAIN superheroes (this was a project they have put in pace and is amazing)! this duo showed kindness empathy, out of the box thinking and a brilliant approach to care that is faultless, they really are superheroes

The Palliative Carer Award

Winner – Butterfields community care

Butterfields offers an outstanding service that puts the clients at the heart of everything they do. They show clear passion for the team that has been developed and support staff as well as the clients and their families. They really do always go above and beyond to make anything possible to keep clients in the home.

 

The Social Care Nurse Award

Winner – Dianne Declan, Mill House Care and Dementia Home chipping Campden

A deserving winner, Dianne is a breath of fresh air, she is compassionate and caring.

Daniela was completely surprised that she had been nominated.  Her passion was clear to see. Daniela worked with her team through the pandemic, and they had no deaths form covid. Daniela goes above and beyond and enabled a gentleman to be able to return back home after questioning his medication and getting it reviewed. Daniela has the skills that make a great nurse.

Bailey is a young volunteer who loves supporting the residents in Patron House.

The Outstanding Contribution to Social Care Award

Winner – Mary Shortman, AbleCare Homes, Frenchay House

Mary is the true definition of outstanding contribution to care. Few people can say they have withheld such compassion over the course of a lifetime – and it is unbelievable to think of how many lives Mary has touched with her kindness and guidance. She is clearly such a good friend and colleague to all who work with her, and an immense source of support to those she cares for and their families and loved ones. Thank you Mary!

Mike and his team have gone to extraordinary lengths to make sure that people they support are able to receive compassion, human kindness, and care in their last moments. There were countless examples of times when the team have gone the extra mile (and then some) to make sure people felt supported and rewarded – including those in the wider community. The Butterfield team clearly understand what it is to make a difference to somebody’s day – and even their life – and don’t let anything get in their way to make it happen.

 

The Social Care Covid Hero Award

Winner – Katie Kuczynski, Housing21

Katie led a scheme which was devastated by Covid. Seven of her customers passed away as a result of Covid as did one of her colleagues. Katie and a colleague spent 17 days solid working in the scheme that was in total lockdown to ensure that the tenants continued to be supported and was innovative in using technology to provide ongoing activities when tenants couldn’t mix together. A passionate, skilled and committed manager.

Highly commended – Alex Turner, Saracen Care Services

Alex was very passionate which clearly shone through in his interview, He demonstrated a clear vision of actions necessary, organizational skills and commitment to support all his customers and staff through the pandemic and he was clearly willing to go the extra mile. His work with the Council and the local NHS was particularly impressive as was his proactive style when he encountered problems. Alex continues to be acutely aware of the dangers of Covid and other infectious deceases and is doing all he can to mitigate the dangers.

Pat excelled at communication and ensuring that all her team were appropriately trained and supported. The team coped magnificently during the most challenging period with the support and guidance of Pat. Despite a significant impact on her family, she prioritized her customers and staff.
