The Care Home Worker Award

Winner – Kevin Smith, Anchor

Kevin is a skilled handyman for the company but happily and successfully takes on other roles to support the residents. He chairs a Men’s Club to enhance the wellbeing of male residents as well as helping to build a sensory room and a salon. He joins in with the activities and feels that he needs to make the residents lives worth living in the home. A well deserved winner.

Highly commended – Heidi Bradbury, CHD Living

Heidi started working in activities but has recently stepped up as the Manager of the home. During the pandemic she arranged for pantomimes be played by the staff and residents twice a year so they didn’t miss out on something they enjoyed. She arranged for virtual visits to the local school for one resident who helped the children with their artwork. This level of commitments is easily deserving of high commendation.

The Home Care Worker Award

Winner – Olimpia Costea, Agincare Live-in Care (South East) Ltd 

Olimpia came across very passionate and demonstrated great dedication to her role and clients. One of her main clients wrote a testimonial letter describing Olimpia’s humour, activity management and holistic approach to client well-being. Olimpia clearly keeps a person-centered approach at the core of her work and should be very proud of the impact she has on those around her.

 

Highly commended – Howie Bunkham, Right at Home GF

Howie is new to care having worked for most of his in engineering, but he clearly has an intuitive understanding and natural talent for care. Person-centered and perceptive, Howie goes above and beyond for his clients, making significant progress with clients with Dementia by implementing “mini move to a magic moment.” He will go far in the sector, and such raw talent and drive is worthy of high commendation.

 

The Care Newcomer Award

Winner – Hayley Emery, Shinfield View – Berkley Care

Hayley’s warmth, ambition and determination was palpable – even over zoom! She has achieved a magnificent amount in the past 10 months, there is no doubt that she will go on to achieve much, much more. A born carer, Hayley is a worthy winner.

A young, ambitious and empathetic individual, Thalia is the type of talent that the care sector needs to hold tightly on to. She should be very proud of her great contribution in such a small amount of time. Well done Thalia!

Sonya is a General Manager, Registered Manager and a Registered Nurse and manages a 94 apartment unit. The way she manages the services is admirable. She has incredible energy and enthusiasm for her role and provides supervision and support to her staff day and night and is not afraid to combine her managerial responsibilities together with a ‘hands on’ approach. She clearly loves her job and her client group.

 

The Supported Living Registered Manager Award

Casey Jell, The Kent Autistic Trust

Casey works for the Kent Autistic Trust. She has been a Registered Manager for 15 years. Casey likes to be proactive and creative in her approach and this has been recognized by the CQC who awarded her an outstanding rating in several areas. Her personal experience has changed her outlook on life and is an inspiration to others.

Emily’s dedication, passion and commitment are admirable, as she brings a tenacious and effective approach to home care management. A personable leader who keeps the client at the heart of what she does, she is a worthy winner in this category.

The knowledge this chef had of so many individuals he supports was exceptional – the stories Tony was able to tell about the people supported in his home are truly what being person centered is all about. This chef loves to teach – loves to grow new team members in the kitchen through the NVQ programmes and takes pride in being able to develop himself and his team – Well done Tony!

Kay epitomises the love and care needed in the this sector – with a nothing-is-too-much-trouble attitude. Kay demonstrates how passionate she is about food and the people who live where she works. Kay goes all out every day to make a real difference and is proud to be able to support people through great meals, great support and a can do attitude.

An inspiring team full of energy and passion for the residents they support.  Always looking for new ways of working and improving their service, they have even found a way to bring the outside into their home with an indoor garden project. Well done team!

The Aspire Home Carers Thanet team talked with incredible passion about their service, their staff and what motivates them all to do the very best for people who experience many challenges in life. In the short time they have been operating, they have made a tremendous difference to individuals, helping them achieve positive outcomes.

The excellent relationship between the management team has a direct impact on the whole of the staff. The Registered Manager’s enthusiasm for finding innovative ways to recruit as well as making sure she remains in touch with the staff in the community, highlighted attention to detail and the importance of truly person-centered care.

Laura showed the power of thinking outside the box and pushing the limits of what can be achieved. She demonstrated her love for the role and the way what might be seen as small things can have an incredible impact on a person’s life. Her personality shone through during the interview and it’s not hard to see why she was nominated, and now a winner!

Tamara spoke of “creating memories” and this is clearly shown in her work. Her desire for positive outcomes for people has led her to not only make a difference in the residents’ lives but also members of the local community. Cy clearly has endless enthusiasm for supporting the residents, and it is clear to see he is caring and goes above and beyond to make the residents happy. His selflessness knows no bounds: the business is very lucky to have him!

A very dedicated man, Peter not only does his job but goes out of his way to be caring and helpful to others. He is very proud to work in the care home and knows all the residents personally. This person-centered approach has done, and will continue to, see him far in this sector.

Karen provides a specialist service to those with dementia. She works collaboratively and in cohesion with providers and health and social care professionals, always looking to develop and promote training for staff, carers and others. Karen’s dedication and commitment shines through in a way that those she works with feel confident and reassured in the service she provides.

What a place to work. This woman and her dedicated team have placed those first footsteps in the reawakening of support and caring. The language Alison uses to explain the service provided is definitely a game-changer in health and social care support and the support offered to her staff team is exceptional.

A highly innovative tech start-up whose tenacity, knowledge and culture brought products to market which are simple in design, easy to use and thus effective in their outcomes. Such innovations are much needed in the sector and should be celebrated accordingly.

Providing a simple solution to a complex problem, MRG Care Ltd demonstrated a truly innovative approach. With a great understanding on the importance of team work, MRJ are much deserving of high commendation for this award.

Previously a wedding planner, Afsheen has now turned their hand to care coordination, bringing ceaseless passion and tireless enthusiasm for the job. Her attention to detail, in combination with big-picture thinking, make her exceptional in her role.

Georgie is clearly passionate about what they do, going above and beyond the call of duty. Bringing dedication and a person-centered approach to their work, they are a worthy winner of this award, and should be proud to bring home the trophy.

Winner – Helen Dunning, Wellington Vale Care Home

Helen is not only an asset to the team but to the care sector as a whole. She clearly puts residents first, arranging weekly meetings with the staff to make sure everyone is safe, care needs are addressed, and that everyone is on the same page. She is an individual who goes the extra mile

Ensuring that residents are well looked after and happy is at the top of the priority list at The Firs. This person-centered approach necessarily fulfills the requirements for this award, and they are much deserving of this high commendation.

Karen showed an admirable commitment to her role, taking great care to ensure that families are involved in the care process and approach. She prioritizes the very human aspect of caring for someone at end of life, acting as that calm port in a storm for those who need it most.

Anita seems to have been designed for the role of palliative carer, adopting a strong yet nurturing approach to those she care for and their families. She is the type of carer with whom you would trust to look after a family member.

Peabody supports and advises people who need help with housing related issues, managing tenancies, finding work, benefit challenges and also bringing the local community together. Peabody is well deserving of this accolade!

Vanessa has worked in her role for the past 21 years providing support for people with autism and other difficulties. She ensures the residents and their homes are personal to them and their needs are always met. Her motto is “There is no place like home”.

Micha’s passion for social care nursing shone through throughout the whole interview, she is committed and dedicated to ensuring she provides not only the best care she can but that those around her are supported to improve.

Joy clearly loves her role and you can’t help but smile at her enthusiasm and desire to want to make a difference to those she cares for. She puts the residents at the heart of all she does and is a credit to social care nursing.

 

 The Outstanding Contribution to Social Care Award

Winner – Jonathan Beebee, PBS4

Jonathan suffered a life-threatening injury in his younger years and through his strength and determination gained his ability to focus on building his life. After many years of hard work, nurse training and commitment Jonathan became the founder and CEO of PBS4, supporting several members of the community to receive specific, detailed and specialist care. His dedication and commitment to supporting and improving the lives of people is unquestionable.

 Highly commended – Caroline Bartle, 3SpiritUK

Caroline has worked in the sector for 30 years and has dedicated most of her career on learning and development of staff. Caroline’s work has had a very positive impact in the sector and her autism training has demonstrated a 78% improvement in engagement and communication with clients.. Caroline is very passionate about learning and development and described her moto as harvesting and sharing knowledge.

 

The Social Care Covid Hero Award

Jade is a Manager that goes above and beyond to deliver and lead by example, she has reacted to the covid pandemic and hit it head on to protect and serve those she cares for, services users/residents and colleagues. She has evidenced exceptional passion and commitment to care and the wider community to be a true covid Hero that all should aspire to.
