Winner – Diane Clarkson, Keate House Residential Home

A close-knit family run home that in the past 2 years have ensured the safety of their residents and staff. Putting on events for the residents, for pride week they had a drag queen come in which the residents and staff loved. Prioritising staff, this employer organises team days out which included go-karting and cocktail making. Diane is a big believer that happy staff makes a happy home.

 

Highly commended – Paul Blane, Care Business Associate Training & SVL Care

Paul came into the care home following a bad CQC report. The staff were deflated, and had no support, so Paul implemented a plan to change the workplace culture and ethics. This plan was incredibly successful, as SVL now have 96% retention, higher pay, are flexible employers, 0 agency use, and 0 death related to covid.

Sylvia clearly cares: a lot. She is dedicated and passionate and prioritises a person-centered approach to ensure the best possible outcomes for residents. She is well deserving of high commendation for this award.

Zoe was a very nervous interview but was an exceptional candidate, she is obviously caring and full of empathy and kindness – a very worthy winner of this award who should be proud of her work!

Brendan is very passionate about his role and the service he manages. He has a clear vision for the future and the difference they are making and aims to continue to provide a person centered service. This has been recognised during inspections.

Compassion and care just oozed from the minute Martyna spoke – she is just so loving and you can tell by the way she talks about her work she puts her all into her role. She is such a delight to talk with and her warmth was palpable – even via zoom!

Cheryl loves getting all the residents together to chat and share their life experiences. She takes great pleasure in resident feedback, and reports that they are happy, safe and secure.

Going above and beyond for the clients she supports; Amelia exemplifies all you could want in a dementia carer. Often going in to work on her days off, Amelia is clearly a born carer and sees her role as a calling. A well deserving winner.

Natalie is fabulous. She demonstrated a passion and commitment that is rarely seen. She appears to involve her residents as much as possible and is very holistic about the way she cares for them. Very knowledgeable about how roles overlap to ensure that all aspects of the care are covered.

She demonstrated how she has utilised her previous employment and personal experiences to ensure the best outcomes for those she supports.

A truly inspiring and passionate person who clearly puts the needs of people she supports above herself. She understands the importance of the smaller things and promotes and combines her work, her family and farm life to ensure an inclusive approach across the home. Known as the ‘The Queen of Juggling Jelly’, she demonstrated her commitment to her role and beyond.

Beccy introduced some technology to a dementia care home which was really innovative and has clearly made a difference to the lives of residents at her service. Taking a collaborative approach, Beccy’s reports as to the improved quality of life for residents was impressive to hear. Well done Beccy!

The partnership that Community Integrated Care has formed with the Rugby League World Cup has generated incredibly exciting and varied volunteering opportunities for those who are generally excluded from such opportunities. Ffion is very keen and confident in what she is doing, deftly demonstrating examples of the care she provides. An adaptable and innovative thinker, Ffion trains staff to deliver exceptional person centered care.

Pamela has a very good understanding of her role and the expectations that come with it. She is able to navigate both the needs of the residents and the home and highlights a sense of job satisfaction that is heartwarming. Keep up the good work Pamela!

 

The Putting People First Award

Winner – Casicare Holistic Approaches

The nominee gave an inspiring example of encouraging a service user to use transport. This individual was fearful of a bus and as such had a limited field of what they could access and enjoy. The nominee removed all other vehicles from a car park, worked patiently and introduced alternative methods to encourage the individual which resulted in the person living a fuller life with more options available to them. They should be proud and certainly deserve the Putting People First award!

 

Highly commended – Mandy Joseph, Anchor

Mandy is worthy of consideration as she is a fine example of a care worker forging forward for her home despite many organisational challenges. Without a manager and surrounding teams she maintained a CQC rating and is a role model for others coming into the industry

 

The Palliative Carer Award

Winner – Britannia Household, Belong Crewe

This household team go above and beyond to ensure their end of life care is the best it can be. They always go the extra mile with knitted butterflies that the resident and family exchange to keep connections even when the loved one has passed and memory boxes full of photos and a signed card from all staff is sent to love one after the passing. These little steps make their palliative care exceptional, and much deserving of this accolade.

Delma is an inspirational leader, who leads with passion and purpose. Delma classes herself as “nothing special” but it is this humility that makes her special in her outlook, approach and care. Delma obviously loves what she does and this exudes when you speak with her.

The Social Care Nurse Award

Winner – Jamie Ashton, Orchard Care Homes

Jamie’s commitment to social care nursing is exceptional. Inspired by both grandmothers who were nurses, Jamie has always wanted to be a nurse since he experienced his grandad dying at home and saw the care the nurses gave him and their family. He is now able to give back this care in his role.

 

Highly commended – Jade Leigh Corris, Ribble View (Exemplar Homes)

Jade began nursing to make a difference, having seen the poor treatment of a friend with learning disabilities. Driven by this personal investment, Jade qualified as a nurse just before Covid, and has since been on an enormous learning journey at one of the hardest times. She should be very proud of her work.

 

The Unpaid Carer Award

Winner – Eunice Potter, Anchor Trust

Eunice has volunteered for over 20 years. The residents are blind, but Eunice has engaged with them all on various trips out of the home, acting as their sighted guide. An inspirational lady and a worthy winner!

 

The Outstanding Contribution to Social Care Award

Phil is an exceptional finalist whose contributions to social care can be described as nothing short of “outstanding.” In this way, he exemplifies this award, and is a well deserving winner. Congratulations Phil!
